Q&A with Norman’s Ryder Murphy – Presented by OSO Orthodontic Specialists

VYPE: When did you start playing football?

Ryder Murphy: I honestly can’t remember the age that I picked up a football. That tells you how young I was. I’ve been saying since I was a kid that I am making it to the NFL, not I want to, or I might. I have always said I WILL!

VYPE: What makes you passionate about football?

RM: Making a name for myself in football has been a dream since I was a kid.

VYPE: What is your favorite memory playing?

RM: Me and my brother both broke school records against our crosstown rival, Norman North. It is one of the most anticipated games of the year. We took the win. My brother broke the passing record with 472 passing yards, and I broke the receiving record with 233 yards off seven catches.

VYPE: What has your sport taught that you use in your daily life?

RM: Do not stress over what you can’t control.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

RM: The family that comes with being on a team is something you can’t find anywhere else.

VYPE: What teammate left the biggest impression?

RM: Max Wilson. He introduced me to the difficult part of the game. Rather than just being athletic, the technical viewpoint of football as a receiver. He helped me learn those small things to separate me from others.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your school?

RM: The spirit. Giving them a reason to come to the games and cheer, and hopefully helping my school get some shiny stuff in the trophy case.

VYPE: What is your favorite meal?

RM: Chipotle. I get white rice, black beans, steak, chicken, sour cream, and cheese. Yes, it’s bland, I hate veggies with a passion!

VYPE: Here is your chance to say thanks.

RM: It would be wrong not to thank my mom and dad. The countless hours my mom spent with me and my older brother, Phoenix Murphy, taking us to camps, practice, and training. My dad gave me that kick and showed me the game as a young kid. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
