Norman High School’s Rush Herzog is one busy student-athlete. A member of the varsity baseball team and a member of the FFA chapter at school, Herzog balances athletics and with FFA while maintaining his schoolwork.

Now a sophomore, Herzog said he started playing baseball when he was six years old as a pitcher in a kid-pitch league. Herzog is now an outfielder for the Tigers.

“I would say that the outfield is where I excel at and this year, I am injured but I have been working on the offensive side of the game,” said Herzog.

Herzog said he loves being around his teammates and his fellow students in FFA.

“I always look up to the older players whether they are here or graduated. They have skills and thoughts that they have achieved along the way that I can always learn from. The person that keeps everyone laughing is probably Christian Day or Grayson Tedesco and the most serious is definitely Peyton Harris,” Herzog said. “My teammates always find a way to bring each other up after something doesn’t go the way you want it to as well as celebrating you when it does go well. Other than everything I do in FFA, baseball is the only sport I play,” said Herzog.

As a member of the FFA chapter, Herzog serves on the officer team amongst other activities within the chapter.

“In FFA I am the sentinel on the officer team, I show cattle, I do speech, and I am on the shop team,” Herzog said. “Since I do FFA and baseball I miss a lot of school, the teachers and the school as a whole does a great job helping me keep up with my work and make sure I get done what is needed.”

After high school Herzog plans to attend college and pursue a mechanical engineering degree and run a big cattle operation.
