Norman’s McKinzi Maddocks
A senior middle infielder for the Lady Tigers, McKinzi Maddocks has stepped into a leadership role this season and it fits her personality well.
“I would say being a senior I definitely have stepped into a leading role, but through all four years playing for Norman I would consider being the comedian of the team. Making the most and the best out of every situation is a huge thing for me, and softball is a challenging game mentally,” Maddocks said. “It can get fast and sometimes out of hand and over the years I’ve learned it doesn’t have to be so serious all the time, yes there are times for that but keeping a smile and making others around me laugh seems to slow down the game and take some of that pressure off of us.”
Maddocks is known for more than just being a leader or cracking a few jokes. Her work ethic speaks for itself.
“For me I always have enjoyed the work of pushing myself to be better and better every time I step on the field. But honestly just being the best person I can be both on and off the field. About five months ago I committed to go play softball at Hutchison Community College in Kansas, so now I find myself working for what’s to come at the next level. Working for my future colleges coaches and pushing myself more and more to prepare myself to play college ball,” said Maddocks.
Maddocks said her parents have been a source of inspiration in her life on and off the field.
“They’ve taught me many valuable things and have shaped me into the person I am today. They’ve set an amazing example for me to follow growing up and inspire me in more ways than one,” said Maddocks.
Being part of the Lady Tigers for four seasons has been a great experience and playing her final season is bittersweet.
“I love the friendships I’ve made over the years with this team. I honestly can’t believe a yellow ball can bring so many people together and create so many bonds. Every person on this team brings different strengths which is what makes this team so unique,” said Maddocks.
