T-ball is a game many future baseball players get their first experience of the sport. Norman High School sophomore Cooper Cunningham had the T-ball experience at a young age and is now playing for the varsity team.
A catcher for head coach Cody Merrell, Cunningham has developed into a solid defensive player for the Tigers.
“I am an anchor defensively as catcher. Behind the plate, I’ve worked my throw downs and at the plate I’ve been working to improve hitting for average and making good contact,” said Cunningham.
To prepare himself for competition, Cunningham said he listens to music, but it’s not what you think.
“I always get nervous right before games but whenever the National Anthem plays and I’m with my teammates I feel confident and depended on which helps me stay loose and keep my focus,” said Cunningham.
Cunningham said the support he and his teammates receive is something they are grateful to have from their coaches and parents.
“We have great coaches and fans that support us as a team through the highs and the lows. My parents have been to every game as long as I can remember and have led me to be the player and person I am today. Each person’s support helps our team remember who we are playing for.”
Once his playing days come to an end, Cunningham would like to play at the next level. “I would love to play ball in college but if that’s not in the cards, I’d love to eventually become an airline pilot. But whatever I end up doing I know it’s what God wants me to do,” said Cunningham.
