The Norman High School junior has played the game for 11 years, first picking up a glove at age 5. Now a varsity contributor for the Lady Tigers, Kaidence Coldiron values both the competitive energy of the sport and the support within her team.
“I’ve played softball for 11 years, starting at 5, I enjoy the adrenaline the most.”
That excitement is matched by a team-first mindset. Coldiron appreciates the way Norman players encourage each other through difficult moments, recognizing that a positive dugout can make a major difference over the course of a game and season.
“I love how we keep each other up, even when we’re down we’re always talking and making sure that we keep our heads up.”
Coldiron said defense is the strongest part of her game. At the plate, she continues working to improve her swing mechanics, specifically avoiding a tendency to cast her hands.
“My strength has to be defense and something I’m still working on is not casting my hands when I swing.”
Her development has also included a mental adjustment. Coldiron said a lesson from last season helped her approach the game with more confidence and less pressure.
“I learned last year to not put so much pressure on myself and to stay confident.”
Former Norman player Kenzie Maddox also helped shape Coldiron’s perspective on leadership and work ethic.
“Kenzie Maddox I think left a good impression for me just showing me what it’s like to be a leader and to always work.”
Away from the field, Coldiron draws inspiration from her mother, whose example has taught her perseverance and resilience.
“My mom inspires me the most, she has showed me no matter what I go through or what happens that I can always get through it and put a smile on my face.”
After graduation, Coldiron is considering careers in physical therapy or cosmetology. For now, she remains focused on contributing to the Lady Tigers and embracing every adrenaline-filled moment softball provides.
