Norman Tigers Softball Preview – Presented by David Ritter Shelter Insurance

NORMAN TIGERS

Coach: DANIEL WOOD

6-28

OUTLOOK

The Norman Tigers are ready to turn the page this year. Ashtan Gainey (Sr.) will be head coach Daniel Wood’s best weapon. “Ashtan is a senior who has been a starter since she was a freshman,” Wood said. “She led our team in almost every offensive category last year and plays many different positions for us. In her high school career, she has started at every infield position with the exception of pitcher and even played a little outfield when we had an injury during a game. She is a vocal leader and is always the first person to cheer on her teammates. This year we look for her to continue being an offensive presence in our lineup and a leader in the locker room.” Marcella Attar (Fr.) can make an immediate impact in the Tigers’ lineup. “Marcela has a chance to come in as a freshman and contribute right away to our lineup and as a middle infielder. She has played a high level of travel ball with the Athletics organization, and we look for her to be an important piece of our program moving forward,” Wood said. Abby Carter (Sr.) always seems to make the right play. “[Carter] is constantly pushing her teammates to be better every day. She is a positive force for our program and will contribute in many ways,” Wood said. “She will be an outfielder that can play any of the three OF positions and can also be someone that can make a difference with her legs on the base paths.” Shea Stanley (Sr.) does just about everything her coaches ask. “Shea is the most selfless player I have ever had the joy of coaching,” Wood said. She only wants success for her teammates and the team. When we need something done, she is always the kid that will volunteer, whether it is loading the bus or working 12 hours at a tournament. She is active in several clubs in school and is an amazing student. She has won our Mudita award, which is given to the player who gets the most excited for the success of her teammates, three years in a row.”
