Norman High School’s varsity softball program has no shortage of leaders, and junior shortstop Marcela Attar is determined to be one of the voices guiding the Lady Tigers this season. A steady presence in the infield, Attar embraces both the responsibility of her position and the family-style culture that surrounds the team.
“The family environment is what I love most about Norman High softball. I know I can count on each one of my teammates if I need them,” Attar said. That trust extends across the diamond, where she anchors the defense. “I play mostly shortstop. What I enjoy most about my position is the responsibility I have over the infield and the whole field in general. Other than the catcher, the shortstop has the job of controlling what happens on the field.”
Summer workouts have reinforced that mentality as Norman puts in the work to build toward the upcoming season. “Summer workouts are going well. We have a good group of girls who come out every day ready to work and get better with a range of skills. We all challenge each other to get better,” she said. “I am playing club ball. In fact, we just finished up at the Colorado Sparkler where we ended up winning the 18U Power Pool and will be heading to Alliance in Indiana at the end of July.”
Attar credits her mother as her biggest inspiration and models her own work ethic on what she sees at home and in the classroom. She is a member of National Honor Society and plans to run track in the 2027 season, balancing athletics with ambitious academic goals. “My mom inspires me. She is the most hardworking individual I have met whether that be as a teacher or at home. She supports me through everything I do and I’m so grateful for her,” Attar said.
Looking ahead, she hopes to play collegiate softball and earn a degree in biomedical engineering, all while continuing to grow as a defensive standout and team leader for the Lady Tigers.
